Using Genealogy in Writing – 4th Dec.

Myra Duffy gave the workshop presentation on the 4th of December titled Using Genealogy in Writing. It covered valuable areas for those wishing to delve into this study, whether writing fiction or non-fiction. Myra gave helpful links to access records and materials to glean knowledge on family history both in Scotland and abroad. She discussed some things you might find in your searches that you may not even expect or want to know, but that could lead to exciting directions in your writing. The session also included an exercise. In preparation, participants brought an old family photo from the past. Myra asked us to write just five facts about the person in the image. Feedback was highly entertaining, and we surprised ourselves at the plethora of potential storylines from our family trees.
