Our first ‘Writing Festival’ was held on 21st August at St. Andrews Church Lower Hall. We thank East Dunbartonshire Arts Council for their grant which helped us host this free event. It was a resounding success. Despite Covid restrictions and a dreich Saturday morning the delegates enjoyed the ‘confidence’ boosting opening speech by our guest speaker Gina McKie. This was followed by four excellent workshops facilitated by our members Hollie, Myra, Richard and Neet. The topics were on writing Poetry, Novel, Short story and Editing.
The busy day closed with a plenary session chaired by our Vice Chair, Palo. There was a good Q&A session where the workshop leaders were asked incisive questions by the audience.
It was an extremely inspiring and enjoyable event.
Some comments: “Enjoyed an inspiring day at Bearsden Writers Festival. A warm welcome and a wealth of knowledge shared. Thank you.” ( Donna McVey)
“Well done to all involved in the organisation of Bearsden Writers first conference. Really enjoyed it. Thank you.” (Marion MacDonald)
Many of the delegates said that we should have this as an annual event.
Thanks to all who attended our first community writing festival. We appreciate all your comments and will add the ‘Writing Festival’ to our calendar.
